CNR 4204 (Trevor's 2-10-2, because why not?)

A year ago at Exporail, Workshop member Simon Parent introduced his latest creation - a beautiful CNR 2-10-2 - and took orders from interested parties.

I sure didn't need one of these for my Port Rowan layout, but Simon's work is so nice - and the model is so impressive - that I just couldn't resist.

Last night, Simon sent me a photo of my model - fresh out of the paint shop - and it's just too good to keep it to myself:

This brute will get a good workout on the S Scale Workshop layout at upcoming exhibitions - including our return to Exporail in Saint-Constant, Quebec and our first appearance at a major model railway exhibition in Brampton, Ontario. Why not come out and see us?

(Thanks, Simon: I'm very excited. It's Christmas in July!)

    3. Hi Matthieu:
Oh, I am! This one is for use on the Workshop modules - not on my layout.
I hope you can make it. It would be great to meet you!

  3. Does it fit on the turn table at Port Rowan? Or will it have to run back out by the blunt end? It could be used on vice regal duties as part of a royal tour to Port Rowen, run into Port, unload dignitaries, uncouple, back out to a larger turn table, turn around, then back in into Port again, then off again to the rest of the Dominion of Canada.

    1. Well, as I've noted already, this one isn't meant for Port Rowan. It will run on the Workshop modules.
On my home layout, a bridge to the north of the area I model had a weight restriction that limited the size of steam engine that could run to Port Rowan to 2-6-0s. After the bridge was rebuilt in the mid-1950s, 4-6-0s were permitted to the Port. The bridge could handle heavier engines, but the rails on my branch could not.
      Cheers!

  4. What's life if you can't enjoy a model of a big loco?

And you can also invoke Rule 1.

  5. Trevor, It looks beautiful. I live a little too far I'm afraid, to every see it in person (California). I'm sure it will look magnificent on the workshop modules. Can't wait to see photos and video (hint, hint) Andrew

    1. Hi Andrew:
No worried - there will be plenty of photos and, I hope, some video. Meantime, you can find lots of photos and videos of Simon's own model of the 2-10-2 (CNR 4205) on this blog: scroll back through the older posts and you'll find them. Enjoy if you visit!
